But oddly enough my actual favorite part of the book doesn't even get into the movie, and that's the cleansing of the Shire. I've heard people complain that the movie has too many endings, but they skipped over so much of it. The whole story is most appropriately wrapped up where it started, back in the Shire, but not back to things exactly the way they were. The character growth shows up there the most strongly, and the hobbits as a whole have a new memory to make them stronger as a people and culture. But they're still essentially hobbits, and even big changes can't change what makes them hobbits. And that's the best part of all.
